The pressure had been building for days. I felt heavy, lost, moody — like something pushing down on me from all sides. I could tell something big was unfolding, moving through me, wanting space to process and complete. My body felt it. My rational mind couldn't make sense of it.

All I knew was that I wanted to go somewhere far away from everyone. To be in a body of water. To go to the ocean. That night I was already looking at bookings to the sea. Instead, I poured myself a bath.

As I lowered myself into the water, the build-up reached its tipping point. The pressure exploded, and I started wailing, crying my heart and gut out. A pain that felt so deep and so primal, it was pre-verbal. My mind couldn't make any meaning of it. I have no memory of where it began. But I trusted that my body knew what it was doing, and I let it wail.

The deeper I went into it — the more I allowed it to express and unfold — the closer I came into contact with what this pain actually was: a cry for Love. For the Love and Safety of Mother. Like a baby crying for its mum. Crying to finally feel safe and held in the embrace of her love and protection.

It made sense, then, why I'd been craving a calm body of water. I was longing to be held by Her — Mother Nature. The primordial Mother.

What the Pain Is Actually Asking For

Here is what I've come to trust: beneath every pain is a cry for Love.

Pain is just lost Love trying to find its way Home — back to the embrace of the very Love it longs for.

All it really wants from us is to be met, with Love. To be felt. To be let in, all the way through. For its cry, its screams, its wails to finally be heard. For its grief and its longing to finally be felt. By somebody.

And that somebody is you. Always you.

When I say met, I mean being fully present with. It's a quality of attunement. Think of a time when somebody was fully present with you — how you could feel them right there with you in everything you shared, how much less alone you felt in what you were going through. That is what this part of you is waiting for. Not from someone else, in the end. From you.

Becoming the Love It's Crying For

In the bath that night, in the middle of that part's crying, I got to witness something extraordinary: a deeper part of me emerged to become the very motherly, nurturing, unconditionally loving presence this part was crying for. I experienced holding myself — being a baby and a mother at the same time. It was trippy, and beautiful beyond words. I felt like a mother holding her newborn in her own arms, and I experienced a boundless love I didn't know was possible.

That's the secret hidden inside our deepest pain. As you allow yourself to fully feel a part's longing for Love, something within you expands to become the very Love it longs for — the way a parent discovers the true depth of their capacity to love only when they hold their newborn for the first time. You literally expand your capacity to Love by meeting the very part in you that longs for it.

And when the pain feels met, it begins to soften and melt in your embrace, like a crying baby beginning to calm and curl up in the loving, attuned holding of its parent. The hurt part in me calmed and softened exactly this way. I could feel the softening deepen and expand moment by moment, as this part's trust in Love grew. As my trust in Love grew.

You know how breathtakingly precious little babies are? It's the same here. When the part that carries the hurt begins to trust and soften in your Love, it reveals the sweetest, most precious qualities of your Being: innocence, innate trust, sensitivity, feelings of connectedness, preciousness, playfulness. You can't help but fall in love with yourself when this happens.

To Make Whole

We tend to hear healing as though something were broken and needed fixing. But the word's literal root means to make Whole. When something in you heals, it experiences being made Whole from a perceived place of fragmentation. Nothing about you was ever broken.

What often follows such a meeting — I've witnessed it again and again, in myself and in others — is a profound experience of Heart Opening and Heart Coherence. It is the sweetest, most incredible feeling. A true experience of coming Home to yourself. A deeper part of you can finally soften, surrender, and rest in the embrace of Love. You feel incredibly at peace. Like you've finally arrived. Like everything has finally fallen into place. There's no longer a need to fight, to strain, to push uphill, to get somewhere, or to be somebody. For it is Perfect right here, right now.

That night, I felt this part of me unite with the very Love it had been crying for. I dropped deeper and deeper into Bliss. And that profound state — that Heart Coherence — kept unfolding through the days that followed. There is truly no better place to be. This is what Home feels like.

The Path of the Heart

It wasn't my first time here. I've arrived at this place before, after every layer of pain that was met and melted. Each time, Home stabilises a little more. And then another layer reveals itself. And then another.

This is the path of the Heart: coming Home to the Love that we are, by meeting every layer of hurt, imprint, and conditioning that has fragmented us from knowing, experiencing, and embodying our true nature as Love.

There'll be moments in your life when you face your deepest pain. Meet it. There's an incredible treasure on the other side.

For this is Home. And you are Home.
